About the role

Plan and deliver engaging English lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Prepare lesson materials and schemes of work aligned with the curriculum. Assess student progress through assignments, tests, and oral work, then provide clear, constructive feedback. Differentiate teaching to support mixed-ability classes and individual learning needs. Manage classroom behaviour and create a positive, inclusive learning environment. Keep accurate records of attendance, attainment, and progress. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student performance. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, moderation, and departmental activities. Participate in school events, parent evenings, and continuous professional development.

Essential requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
• Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, CELTA/TEFL for language roles, or equivalent)
• Proven classroom teaching experience in English
• Strong subject knowledge of English language and literature
• Ability to plan effective lessons and assess student progress
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Strong classroom management skills
• Right to work in the country of employment

Preferred

• Master’s degree in English, Education, or related subject
• Experience teaching examination classes (e.g. GCSE, A-Level, IB, IELTS)
• Experience with digital learning tools and blended learning
• Additional language skills
• Experience mentoring trainee teachers or leading departmental initiatives
• Evidence of continuous professional development in teaching English
